Literary Device Short Story

It was the morning of May 12th and it was finally the big trip to Hawaii, the moment that Ava had been waiting for, for months. Ava, who was 10, was on her way to the airport with her little brother Ethan and her parents. She was ecstatic! The plane ride to hawaii felt like 5 years to Ava. She kept getting bored, but then telling herself that it was worth it because it’s Hawaii they’re going to and she was so energetic!
When they arrived in Hawaii, her family was greeted with leis and they went back to the resort. They got their room and looked out the window to see a bright blue ocean and palm trees everywhere! The whole family was super happy. The next morning Ava and Ethan went down to the beach. The ocean was as blue as the sky on a warm summer day. The waves rolled over and over camly, creating a relaxing effect. Ava and her brother walked up the warm, tan, sand looking at the tiny, white seashells resting in the sand. Then their parents came over from the pool with brightly colored towels and breakfast. Ava had chocolate chip pancakes which reminded her of the ones that her dad used to make her when she was little.
After breakfast on the beach, they went over to the excursions desk to go snorkeling. So, the next day they went on a boat ride out into the ocean to go snorkeling. Ava was enjoying the boat ride with wind in her hair watching the waves fly by. Then, they jumped into the water and went snorkeling. Ethan found a whole bunch of coral and a few dolphins. Then suddenly the instructor came over and said she found a baby turtle that everyone could hold. The turtle was dark green with small circle on its shell and had lighter green around it. The turtle was the smallest thing in the world! The baby turtle was so cute, and Ava did not want to let go. They kept snorkeling for a while along the Hawaiian coast and saw tons of fish, playful dolphins and neon coral. It was a fun day for Ava and Ethan!
That night Ava and her family went to a luau! There were people spinning fire and doing tricks that made everyone leave in awe. They were twirling the fire so fast! Then a group of girls did a hula dance and Ava thought that this was so cool, and different from anything she had seen before. That night Ava’s brother, Ethan had a new food that he hadn’t eaten before called poi. Ethan thought it was good, and kept eating more.
Later in the hotel room, Ethan got sick and Ava got really worried. Her parents thought it was just food poisoning, but Ethan said that it felt like his throat was closing and he couldn’t breathe. Ava got so scared for her brother. The family took Ethan to the hospital closest to the resort. Ava and her father sat in the waiting room for what seemed like forever. It turned out that Ethan was allergic to the poi he had at the luau. Ava went in to go visit her brother who was sitting in a hospital bed and looked a little bit better than before. Ethan was so upset especially since he is a picky eater and finally found another food he liked. The family was so tired since it was later at night and returned to the hotel room.
The next morning Ethan took it easy and they just hung out at the pool. Ava was bored since she didn’t have anyone to play at the pool or beach with. Although she was happy that Ethan turned out to be okay, she was confused why Ethan was still tired since it was just an allergic reaction. Ethan was feeling better by the afternoon so they decided to go hiking through the rainforests. Ava was so excited to see all the cool trees, animals and to jump in the waterfall at the end. All the plants were so unique and vividly green. Every flower was bright and pretty. Everything was gorgeous! At the end they went swimming in the waterfall. There were a few layered waterfalls that led into each other. Ethan and Ava would climb from one to the other jumping into the cold water.

It was their last day in paradise and the island looked happy. There was a rainbow in the sky, a bright turquoise ocean, warm air, and a flowy breeze. They took pictures down by the beach and then went into the hawaiian village to see what it was like. Ava got a little hawaiian hula girl with her name engraved in it to put in her room. Ava was sad to be leaving Hawaii, but was grateful for the experience and memories. Ethan knew that he would always remember this trip, especially since he had a severe allergic reaction. Ava was happy to return home with her family and that Ethan was fine. She thought about all the fun she had and that she would have to visit back when she got older, but this time not to eat any poi.
